International Journal of Training Research

The International Journal of Training Research (ISSN 1448-0220) is a peer-reviewed journal that is published three times a year by Taylor & Francis Group on behalf of the Australian Vocational Education and Training Research Association (AVETRA).

The journal publishes articles which advance our knowledge and understanding of vocational education and training (VET) in Australia and internationally. It focuses on current or completed research on training, vocational education and technical education. It also publishes book reviews of interest to its readership.

The published articles address the interests of researchers, educators, trainers, policy-makers, skills capacity planners, and undergraduate and postgraduate students in vocational education and training. Papers in the Refereed Section of the journal have been blind, peer refereed by at least two members from a pool of specialist reviewers from Australia and overseas. In addition, articles may be submitted for the Practice Section, and these articles are single, blind reviewed.

History of the journal

The publication began as the Journal of TAFE Research and Development in the mid-1980s when it was published by the National Centre for Vocational Education Research (NCVER) in Adelaide. In 1992, the journal changed its focus and name to the Australian and New Zealand Journal of Vocational Education Research (ISSN 1039-4001) under the editorship of Professor John Stevenson at Griffith University and published by the National Centre for Vocational Education Research (NCVER). In 2002, the journal underwent a further transformation, changing its name to the International Journal of Training Research (ISSN 1448-0220) and passing to AVETRA, the independent association for research in vocational education and training, bringing together research stakeholders and researchers from the VET/TAFE, university, industry and government sectors.

Contributions

Contributions, prepared according to journal Author Guidelines, must be original, not submitted for publication elsewhere, and not previously published either in print or online. They must add to knowledge and understanding of vocational education and training and show how they are aiming to improve policy-making and/or practice in this field. All manuscripts are expected to be analytical, with reports of studies interpreted in terms of both the theoretical literature and contemporary issues in vocational education and training.

Articles may be submitted to the Refereed Section of the journal or to the Practice Section. The Practice Section takes shorter articles of a more practical and applied nature. Book reviews are also welcome.

Refereeing

All articles submitted to the Refereed Section of the journal are double-blind, peer-refereed by reviewers from Australia and overseas. Articles submitted to the Practice Section are single blind refereed.

The Journal uses the APA Formatting and Style Guide 6th edition for the formatting of submissions. This is a link to an easy-to-use guide to the APA requirements:

Refereed articles should be between 5000 and 7000 words in length, including tables, figures and references. Articles for the Practice Section should be between 3000 and 4500 words. Manuscripts that exceed these word limits will be critically reviewed with respect to length. Authors should include a word count with their manuscript.
